There is a captivating history to the Cambodia gambling halls that reside just over the border from nearby Thailand, in which gambling den betting is not allowed. Eight gambling halls are based in a generally tiny space in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia gambling dens is in a perfect area, a three to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular betting centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai blue-collar workers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The astonishing income accrued from the gambling dens ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than 12.5 million, and there are a few restrictions constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is presumed to be largely Thai; although, investment sources are ambiguous. The borders are formally open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and although visas are apparently necessary to pass, there are methods and means around this, as is real of many borders.

The initial Cambodia gambling halls premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving just 1 gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored bateau gambling hall, contains 150 slot machine games and sixty gaming tables. The Naga gambling hall never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, four tables of twenty-one, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The 1st gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon followed. There are 150 slot machines and five tables at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machine games and sixty eight table games at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred slot machines and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 one armed bandits and ninety six gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat banque (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machines and 66 of the familiar tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, also in a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machine games and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a multinational vacation and hotel building that features many amenities accompanying the gambling hall, which has 10,000 square feet of one hundred and thirty one armed bandits and 88 tables.
